Getting Family Life Back on Track

Reclaiming Family Life

I grew up in a very different time.

Children were seen and not heard. You ate what you were given, said “please” and “thank you,” and did not answer back. I do not want to go back to that. It was often too hard, too strict, and not always kind.

But like many baby boomers, I probably went too far the other way. I wanted my children to have what I never had, so I gave too much, allowed too much, and sometimes mistook comfort for good parenting.

Every generation reacts to the last.

Today’s parents face something we never had to deal with: phones, tablets, social media, fast food, and endless noise. Children are surrounded by information, but much of it does them little good. Families can be in the same room and still miles apart.

One evening I told my grandchildren old stories about Finn McCool, the Pirate Queen, and a few more besides. No screens, no videos, no scrolling. Just stories. They still talk about them with more warmth than anything they watched online.

That says something.

This website is about helping families gently take back a bit of family life. More stories. More reading. More proper conversations. Fewer screens. Better habits at home.

No lectures. No judgement. We all got things wrong.

None of us are perfect. But small changes can still make a home feel more like a family again.
